Palo Alto based NovaCloud Licensing was formed in 2024 to take ownership of and provide access to the fundamental patented technology that developed from Ericsson’s pioneering research in cloud computing, networking, and content delivery over the past 20 years.

Patent Portfolio

NovaCloud Licensing's patent portfolio includes a strong foundation of key patents originating from Ericsson's extensive research and development efforts in the telecommunications and infrastructure services industry over the past two decades. Ericsson's innovative solutions addressed complex technical challenges facing core technologies central to today's Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud computing platforms, content delivery networks, and datacenters.

Through significant investment in R&D, Ericsson developed groundbreaking patents related to crucial technologies like reliability, load balancing, autoscaling, virtualization, resource management, caching, SLA management, and distributed computing.

These foundational technologies, enabled by Ericsson's extensive research and patented inventions, are crucial components of modern cloud computing and content delivery infrastructures. As a result, they underpin many of the consumer-facing technologies and services we rely on daily, such as file storage and access, streaming services, cloud-based SaaS applications, and communication and collaboration tools.

The important innovations that emerged from this pioneering research and development activity have paved the way for a wide variety of technologies that have become an integral part of our daily lives.

Team

NovaCloud Licensing is led by Joe Chernesky and Bill Goldman and has an extended team of technical, legal, and business experts and third party business partners.

Joe Chernesky

Joe is the founder and Managing Member of NovaCloud Licensing, LLC and has more than 30 years of general management, leadership and intellectual property experience at Fortune 100 technology companies, private equity, the United States Government, and innovative start-ups. Joe is also the founder and CEO of VideoLabs, Inc. and serves as a Board Director and Board Advisor for a number of technology companies and non-profit organizations. Joe earned a BS and MBA from the University of Arizona and served for 10 years as a US Naval Officer in various assignments throughout the world.



Bill Goldman

Bill is the co-founder and Managing Member of NovaCloud Licensing, LLC and has more than 25 years of diverse and extensive work experience in intellectual property strategy and patent licensing. Bill is also the co-founder and EVP IP Strategy of VideoLabs, Inc. and has previously held senior leadership and partner roles at global technology companies and law firms. Bill earned a BS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Michigan State University and a JD from Syracuse University College of Law. Bill is a licensed California attorney and is registered to practice at the USPTO.


